World Cancer Day

By Lucia Yepes-Puerto (Y10)

Every year on February 4th, people around the world come together to observe World Cancer Day. It is a powerful reminder that cancer affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds, while also highlighting that real progress is possible when communities unite. By joining this global movement, students like us can help raise awareness, encourage prevention, and show solidarity with those currently fighting cancer as well as those who have survived it.

Here at la Chat, we are doing our part to support the cause. The Stu-Co’s Well-being Committee organized a bake sale to raise funds for the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a non-profit organization founded 1933 and based in Geneva, Switzerland. The IUCC is the oldest and largest organisation dedicated to taking action against cancer, supporting the cancer community, and advancing research worldwide.

Around the school, posters were put up to help spread awareness and add a touch of pink across campus. Although pink is most commonly linked to breast cancer awareness, it was used as a general symbol of support and solidarity. Pink ribbons were also available at the reception for anyone who wanted to show their support.
