Film review of “IT”

film review by Beatrice Kellet from our Middle School Writers’ Corner!

“IT” Is a thriller and horror movie directed by Andy Muschietti,  “IT” is a spine-chilling adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic novel. From its eerie atmospheres to its heart-stopping scares, the film weaves a captivating tale of fear and friendship. Among its many memorable moments, one scene stands out as a true masterpiece: the haunting boat scene with Georgie.

Set against the backdrop of a rainy day in the small town of Derry, the scene begins innocently enough as young Georgie sets sail his paper boat down the flooded streets. The tension builds as Georgie’s boat ventures farther into the murky depths, foreshadowing the impending horror. Indeed, the boat falls into the grate on the side of the wall and Georgie bends down to see if he can salvage it. Then comes the encounter with Pennywise, the sinister clown who lurks in the sewers. Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of the demonic entity is nothing short of mesmerizing, infusing the character with a power-hungry rage .

As Pennywise beckons Georgie closer with promises of balloons and fun, the audience gasps as Pennywise shows his real colours as an alien with only one goal: to create pure chaos .

But what truly elevates the boat scene is its emotional resonance. At its core, “IT” is a coming-of-age story about the power of friendship in the face of adversity. Georgie’s fate serves as a catalyst for the Losers Club’s journey, driving them to confront their deepest fears and stand together against Pennywise, who is planning on trapping all of them and messing with their brains in order to ultimately make them turn on one another.

In conclusion, this film is masterfully crafted in a way that encapsulates suspense, terror, and emotional depth. It is a testament to the talents of the cast and crew, and a highlight of an already stellar adaptation.

IT can be an experience that some people call “the movie that changed them forever”. I recommend this film to people who love the mystery of a thing called “IT”, that we believe to be an alien that is sent to earth to cause havoc just because they want to. In my opinion, this book deserves a 10/10 grade. I really do believe it is worth all this attention from everyone, even those who don’t like horror movies. You will never see another movie like “IT”.
