poem by George Chalkias from our Junior Update!
As the winter wind whistles, its song swirling around me
I stand there looking forward, viewing the world around me,
Looking at the mountaintops, staring at the trees
Here I am, and under me, this is where the mountain sleeps
–
I look down at all the settlements,
The destruction that we’ve done
We have to change to save this place,
And many more to come
–
I stand here after all this time, the mountain just beneath me
The travel was long, the walk was hard
But it was worth it in the end, I braved the wind,
I climbed the cliffs, the snow was very slippery,
But here I am, I’m at the mountain, I made it in the end
–
Far above me, the sun blazes strong,
feel it’s warm hands stroking me
Telling the cold to begone, here I am
On the mountain, peacefully sleeping below me,
I stand here, my goals reached, my arms outstretched,
Tasting victory
