The firefighters next to our school are actually volunteers so we need to support them cus they barely earn any money :/

Firefighters play a valuable role in our society, whether that’s putting out fires and saving lives or helping cats down from trees (yes, they do that sometimes). But while many firefighters work full-time, receiving a salary—some are volunteers. Just like the firefighters next to our school, behind the Yotel.

There are 73 volunteer firefighters at Terre-Sainte, meaning they have the same skills and training as full-time firefighters, but only work part-time. Volunteer firefighters need to be available at specific times each day, ready to spring to action whenever they’re needed, balancing this responsibility with a second job and their social life. In a way, volunteer firefighters are like Batman, except they don’t have a secret identity and don’t have nearly as much money.

Every year, the firefighters hold a competition with other firefighters, as a fun way to test their skills, as well as an opportunity to train even harder and stay in shape. This competition is what motivates and allows firefighters to stay prepared in case of an emergency. It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness on what they’re doing, and that’s where YOU come in!

Even if you didn’t come to the event itself, don’t worry. There are posters dotted around the school that include QR codes to donate directly to the firefighters, so you can still lend your support. Remember, even the smallest donation can make a big difference.

The competition takes place over the course of two days filled with fun and exciting activities, including a concert on the second day (and of course, lots of food). It’s an annual event, so even if you missed it this year, don’t worry! And besides, we may or may not be planning to invite some of the firefighters to the Kermesse…

So what are you waiting for? Donate now and support our local heroes!
