Paul Laverty (born April 1, 1957) is an Indian‑born Scottish‑Irish screenwriter and former human‑rights lawyer. He studied philosophy in Rome and law in Glasgow before spending several years in Central America, where he investigated human‑rights abuses. He’s best known for his enduring collaborations with director Ken Loach—writing award‑winning films like Carla’s Song (1996), Sweet Sixteen (2002) and I, Daniel Blake (2016)—and has earned accolades including the Cannes Best Screenplay and Palme d’Or prizes.
