Yusra Mardini is a Syrian refugee, Olympic swimmer, and UN Goodwill Ambassador who helped save lives during her escape from war and now advocates for refugees worldwide. ‘The Swimmers’ is a Netflix adaption of her story.
Yusra Mardini is a Syrian refugee swimmer. She fled her country during the Syrian civil war with her sister Sara and sought asylum in Germany. In 2016, she competed in the Summer Olympics as part of the Refugee Olympic Team. The following year, she became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
