Book review of J.K. Rowling’s “The Christmas Pig”

review by Camille Cigognini 8D from our Middle School Writers’ Corner

Here is a book which I really enjoyed reading and which was definitely worth my time!

The parents of a young boy called Jack have separated and Jack is scared but luckily he still has his pig to cuddle. Dur Pig is Jack’s favorite cuddly toy who is always there to listen, to hug, and of course to be Jack’s best friend. When mum comes home one day with a friend and his daughter Holly, Jack is nice to Holly but soon realizes that she is not nice at all. Jack copes with Holly until she does something that not even Jack’s grandfather could ignore and something that changes Jack’s Christmas. All the toys in his room come alive, and together with The Christmas Pig, Jack goes on a mission to enter the Land of Lost, where he faces a monster just to be reunited with the thing that he loves most.

I recommend this book to people who like to read a good Christmas book and to people who like a bit of fantasy .

I love this book because there are lots of unexpected twists which makes the book very exciting and captivating. I also like the way the author describes the characters in a very detailed and engaging way.

My least favourite part of this book is when Holly shouts at Jack for being a baby because he hasn’t done anything to deserve that.

In conclusion, this is a wonderful book and you don’t have to wait until next Christmas to read it!

My interpretation of the characters

  1.  Dur Pig – He only wants what’s best for Jack and always puts him first
  2. The Christmas pig – Even if he is stubborn he also wants what’s best for Jack
  3. The mum – She is kind and finds a solution for everything
  4. The grandparents – They helped Jack and his mum when they were struggling
  5. Holly – She is grumpy and mean, but in the end she still means well
